Career & Counselling

Frequently Asked Questions

Any member of the University community can benefit from counselling services.

Counselling is a form of talk therapy”. It is a process where an individual, couple or family meets with a trained professional counsellor to talk about issues they consider challenging and can affect their mental health.

In many cases an individual may feel that what he or she is going through is not serious enough to warrant assistance or there is a lot of uncertainty about the kind of support that a counsellor can offer. However the benefit is that each individual may become much more aware about his or her feeling/situation after interacting with a counsellor.

Our counsellors are well trained and certified to guide you express your feelings and thoughts and delve into your world in order to improve your condition. They provide confidential, private and a non-judgmental atmosphere in which you can feel safe, confident and assured to open up on issues of concern to you with the view to finding solutions.

Seeking counselling is not indicative that you are mentally ill or have a diagnosis of any form of psychiatric disorder. Services can help deal with your emotional, academic, relational or mental health problems, including:

  • anxiety
  • depression
  • problems dealing with daily stress
  • social phobia-extreme shyness and low confidence,
  • coping with the effects of abuse
  • mood challenges,
  • lack of concentration in class or studies,
  • sexual problems
  • panic attacks and phobias
  • dealing with extreme grief,
  • eating disorders
  • fear of success
  • Obsessive behavior.

The Counsellor listens and handles you with compassion and understanding rather than making a diagnosis. The Counsellor assesses what has happened to you, not what is wrong with you. Then helps with life-changing experiences which can help you to improve your mental health, overcome social or emotional challenges, and fulfill your potential.

All students of the university community are required to benefit from career training.

The training offered is to equip students with the requisite skills and knowledge to prepare them for life. However the major focus is centered on the following thematic areas:

  • Soft skills
  • Interview Preparation
  • CV preparation
  • Internship

Career training seeks to groom and nurture students to become self-ready for the corporate world. An additional benefit is to give students the opportunity to complete coursework with basic entrepreneurial skills. As part of our credo, students are trained to achieve high level of professionalism, creativity, hard work, discipline and integrity.  Partnerships have also been built with various stakeholders to give students the opportunity to intern with them.

Career training is very important because it will provide you with all the necessary skills. Experts argue that one of the biggest challenges for employed people and even entrepreneurs is their lack of administrative and management skills
