Paul Adu-Gyamfi, a Ghanaian youth leader, registered nurse, and current law student at Wisconsin International University College, Ghana was among the youth delegates from Ghana at the 2024 Youth Connekt Africa Summit in Kigali, Rwanda. Held from November 8th to 10th, the summit focused on the theme “Jobs for Youth through Innovative Skilling,” gathering African heads of state, youth ministers, young entrepreneurs, leaders, artists, innovators, and development partners committed to driving youth empowerment across the continent.
Paul, who previously served as the Student Representative Council (SRC) President at Wisconsin International University College (WIUC), Ghana, during the 2021/2022 administration, is no stranger to leadership. Having graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2022, he is now pursuing his second degree as a Level 200 law student at Wisconsin. His selection as a delegate for this year’s Youth Connekt Summit marked both his first international flight and his first global youth conference, making it a milestone in his advocacy journey.
The Youth Connekt Summit, an annual event, is designed to empower African youth through networking, skills development, and policy innovation. This year’s agenda included discussions on digital skilling and technology innovation, transitioning from education to employment, entrepreneurship, small-scale business development, youth involvement in agriculture, and issues surrounding youth mental health, sexual health, and reproductive health.
Reflecting on the event, Paul shared that the summit’s theme resonated deeply with him: “As a registered nurse and a future lawyer, I see how essential it is for young Africans to be equipped with skills that make them both employable and entrepreneurial. Being part of this summit has reaffirmed my commitment to bridging health and legal advocacy. This summit reminded me of the African Union Youth Charter’s vision to empower young people across the continent.”
Paul’s participation was also an opportunity to spotlight Wisconsin International University College, which he credits for equipping him with both leadership experience and the academic foundation needed to make a tangible difference. “WIUC Ghana is committed to nurturing socially responsible professionals who think critically and lead with integrity,” he said. “I’m grateful for the preparation I received, not only in nursing and law but also in leadership skills that I applied throughout my time as SRC President.”

Paul’s experience highlights how empowering young leaders can create pathways to address critical challenges facing Africa’s youth, from healthcare access to employment opportunities and legal advocacy.
