The Wisconsin International University Nursing and Midwifery Students’ Association (WIUNMSA), under the leadership of its 2026/2027 Administration, has successfully organized Pink October Activation 1.0, a health advocacy initiative to promote breast cancer awareness, health education and preventive healthcare.
Pink October Activation 1.0: Know Your Body, Know Your Risk
Held under the theme “Early Detection Saves Lives: Know Your Body, Know Your Risk,” the programme brought together students, health professionals, partners and members of the university community to raise awareness about breast cancer, encourage regular health screening and emphasize the importance of early detection.

The activation featured a range of engaging and educational activities, including health awareness talks, breast and general health screenings, entertainment and interactive games. These activities provided participants with valuable information on breast health, preventive healthcare and the importance of taking proactive steps towards maintaining their well-being.

A key highlight of the programme was the provision of breast and general health screening services, alongside National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration and renewal. This initiative reinforced the importance of making essential healthcare services accessible while encouraging members of the university community to prioritize regular health checks.

Partnerships and Collaborations
The successful organization of Pink October Activation 1.0 was made possible through the support and collaboration of organizations that share a commitment to health promotion, preventive healthcare and community development.
WIUNMSA acknowledges its valued partners: E-Clinic, The Health Project, GMSA-WIUC and Grand Prix Fitness and Wellness Clinic for their collaboration and contributions towards the programme.
Special appreciation is also extended to the sponsors, MiLife Insurance, Brand Surge Marketing, EcoPeriod and Abby Care Foundation, whose support contributed significantly to the successful execution of the activation.

Their involvement underscores the importance of institutional and corporate partnerships in advancing health advocacy, supporting student-led initiatives and creating meaningful opportunities for community engagement.
A Call to Prioritize Early Detection
Beyond the activities and engagements, Pink October Activation 1.0 served as an important reminder that breast cancer awareness must translate into action. It encouraged individuals to become more conscious of their bodies, understand potential risk factors, seek professional medical advice and make regular health screening a priority.

Through initiatives such as this, the Wisconsin International University College, Ghana, continues to provide opportunities for students to translate their academic knowledge into practical community engagement while contributing to important public health conversations.

WIUNMSA remains committed to championing health education, preventive healthcare and community outreach initiatives that promote healthier lifestyles and make a lasting difference.
