On Friday, May 24, 2024, the Wisconsin Business School (WBS) conducted a tour at the Cedi House of the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE). This visit aimed to bridge the gap between classroom theory and practical experience at the GSE.
The tour included over twenty students from Wisconsin Business School, accompanied by the Dean, Dr. Bright Mawudor, and other members of the faculty and the Internal Auditor at Wisconsin International School.
Mr. Umar Kadiri Eglish, Senior Officer of Trading and Surveillance at the GSE, welcomed the group and conducted a two-hour intensive session covering the operations and dealings at the GSE. The session was highly engaging, with students asking pertinent questions, such as how to become a trader. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the president of WBS, Ms. Vanessa Esi Brenwaa Gan, who expressed sincere appreciation to the entire GSE team for their time and comprehensive education on trading.
Mr. Kadiri English added that the stock exchange is a company that is limited by guarantee meaning the GSE does not have shareholders but rather has shareholders who come together to operationalize the company.
The Senior Officer of Trading and Surveillance at the GSE also used the opportunity to advise all that persons nearing pension should go for the fixed income option which sees to it that they receive income regularly based on the type of fixed income they opt for in order to avoid losing their income in case of failure of share by any company they invest in.
Recent statistics indicate that the stock market has seen a steady rise by up to 17.79% as of April 2024 compared to its 12.18% in April 2023 which is positive while records indicate stock Market values at GHS 500million as of April 2024 compared to its GHS204million in April 2023.
This tour, organized by the Dean of WBS, marks the second visit the faculty has made to the Ghana Stock Exchange in just two years.
