Wisconsin International University College, Ghana School of Computing and Technology in partnership with KAMK University from Finland and Microsoft, have launched a new set of Skills for Jobs Microdegree Programs. These certificate programs aim to equip students with in-demand skills in technology.
At the event, Guest Speaker and CEO of Micro Degree Sayed Jawed provided an overview of the Microdegree Programs, describing them as a comprehensive set of short courses designed to focus on specific competencies. He added that, unlike traditional degree programs, these microdegrees allow all learners to demonstrate mastery in a particular area without needing to complete a full degree or be enrolled at a higher education institution.
Mr. Jawed emphasized that the curriculum and certificates offered through the Microdegree Programs hold global recognition in both the IT industry and academia, enhancing participants’ credentials for lucrative job opportunities and further education. The program is developed by Microsoft in collaboration with the European Union and KAMK University, and Wisconsin International University College, Ghana which is the first institution in the country to offer this.
Mr Jawed also highlighted the vast opportunities in the IT job market, noting that having the right skill set and certification is a significant advantage for securing remote positions both locally and internationally. The program is self-paced and online, and upon completion, Microsoft adds graduates to its talent network, connecting them to employers seeking their specific skill sets.
Mr. Jawed also mentioned that the European Union is subsidizing about 85% of the program’s cost, making it more accessible. This funding allows graduates to apply to universities in the European Union through the program.
Designed for students, recent graduates, job seekers, engineers, and professionals wanting to upgrade their IT skills, the Microdegree Programs provide a pathway for career growth and development.
Wisconsin International University College, Ghana and KAMK University later signed an MoU to kick start the program in January 2025.
Present at the signing were the Vice President of the University; Dr. Lawrence Kannae, the Dean of the school of Computing and Technology; Dr. Kofi Annan and the Head of International Relations, Mr. Ebenezer Amuasi.
