The Women’s Commission of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) at Wisconsin International University College Ghana recently organized a significant initiative to raise awareness about breast cancer. The event featured free breast cancer screenings, a walk with a breast cancer survivor, and a Women in Leadership Conference.
Health professionals who participated in the screenings were thrilled to see a diverse group gathered at the university, including students, faculty, staff, and members of the surrounding community. The event, held at the Forecourt of the Junior Common Room, focused on promoting early detection and awareness of breast cancer.
Over 80 women took advantage of the free screenings, many for the first time. The screening process began with health professionals from Core Care Diagnostics, who conducted vital checks before proceeding with the breast cancer screenings. The event also provided an opportunity for women to share their experiences with breast cancer patients and survivors, emphasizing the life-saving importance of early detection.

In addition to the breast cancer screenings, the event offered pelvic and abdominal screenings for those interested, aimed at identifying any potential irregularities in the pelvic area. The screenings left many participants feeling relieved and grateful, inspiring them to encourage each other to prioritize their breast health.
Simultaneously, preparations were underway for the upcoming Women in Leadership Conference, themed “Empowering Voices: Leading Change for a Brighter Tomorrow.” The conference aims to bring together inspiring women leaders, entrepreneurs, and change-makers to share their journeys and insights.
Ms. Josephine Sarpong, the Women’s Commissioner, expressed her enthusiasm for the event: “We aim to inspire and empower women to take on leadership roles, making a positive impact in their communities.”
