WIUC-Ghana President Urges Collaboration Between Academics and Policy Makers

The President of Wisconsin International University College, Ghana, Prof. Obeng Mireku, has urged collaboration between academia and policymakers to enhance the formulation of sound policies and strategies for the nation. Prof. Mireku added that through open dialogue and exchange of ideas, the two can foster a more informed and inclusive governance system that addresses the needs and aspirations of the people.

The President reminded all gathered of the indispensable link between academia and politics saying that “the collaboration and interaction between these two realms are crucial for the advancement of our society”. He added that “academia provides the intellectual framework, research, and critical analysis needed to inform policies and decision-making, while politics translates these insights into action, shaping the direction of a nation”.

Professor Obeng Mireku hoped that the insights shared by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama will not only enrich our understanding but also inspire us to strive for excellence and actively participate in the affairs of our nation. “In these challenging times, it is imperative that we uphold our commitment to service and offer our expertise to contribute to the betterment of society. I urge technocrats and academics alike to heed the call to serve in government, despite the hazards and challenges that may accompany such endeavors”, he added.

Professor Obeng Mireku alluded to the fact that Ghana requires the expertise, innovation, and dedication that academics and technocrats possess to navigate through complex issues and drive meaningful change.

The President was speaking when his university hosted the former president and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama at a public lecture series for Flagbearer of the major political parties in the 2024 General Elections organized under the auspices of the School of Communication Studies.

The event will provide a platform for the aspirants to articulate their visions, policies, and strategies pertinent to the youth demographic, who play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our nation.
