Wisconsin International University College, Ghana, has once again demonstrated why it stands at the forefront of technological innovation and cybersecurity capacity building in West Africa.
On December 2nd to 5th, WIUC proudly represented as the only academic institution invited to the 2025 FIRST & AfricaCERT Symposium in Mauritius (One of the world’s most respected gatherings of cybersecurity leaders, CERTs/CSIRTs, and digital forensics experts), a global platform that brought together institutions that shape the future of cybersecurity across Africa and the Arab regions. In the midst of internationally acclaimed agencies, regulators, and national cybersecurity organisations, WIUC stood alone as the academic voice showcasing what a visionary university can achieve with commitment, expertise, and bold innovation.
Showcasing African Excellence Through Hands-On Forensics Training
At the symposium, WIUC-Ghana, led by its cybersecurity and Digital Forensics laboratory manager, Mr Maxwell Selorm Amuzu and Digital Forensics expert and instructor at WIUC-Ghana, Mr Dunstan Guba, delivered a powerful, discussion-immersive training session titled: “Practical Digital Forensics in the African Context. Tools, Workflows, and Infrastructure Gaps”, a session that demonstrated how WIUC’s Digital Forensics & Cybersecurity Lab has developed forensic workflows calibrated to African investigative realities from mobile money fraud patterns to infrastructure constraints, evidence-handling challenges, and cross-border cybercrime dynamics.

- Context-aware forensic SOPs
- Chain-of-custody models built for African law enforcement
- Affordable but effective toolsets and redundancy strategies
- Real forensic case pilots executed by the WIUC Lab
- Collaborative work with law enforcement and industry partners
Participants, including national CERT teams, investigators, and cyber responders, experienced firsthand how WIUC is producing a new generation of digital forensics talent grounded in both best practices and African realities.
Presenting a Vision for Africa-Centric Forensic Capacity Building
Beyond the hands-on session, WIUC-Ghana articulated its ambitious and actionable vision: A continent where digital investigations, cyber policy frameworks, and talent development are strengthened through academic–law enforcement–industry collaboration.
The team also shared how WIUC is building
- a regional forensic hub uniquely equipped for mobile forensics, cloud investigations, AI-supported analysis, and multimedia forensics
- Strong ties with law enforcement, CSA, judiciary, and national-level CSIRT structures
- The continent’s first truly integrated Digital Forensics + Cybersecurity + AI/VR innovation ecosystem
- A bold plan for an Africa-led forensic competence network and research pipeline
The message was clear. Africa’s cyber future cannot rely solely on imported solutions. It must be built, tested, and validated here by Africans, for Africa, and WIUC is leading that change.

The presence and visibility of WIUC at this international forum sent a clear message that Ghana is ready to lead and WIUC-Ghana is the institution capable of powering that leadership.
WIUC-Ghana now stands firmly positioned as West Africa’s premier academic-based forensics and cybersecurity hub. Not merely a university teaching theory but a national asset delivering practical forensic services, intelligence support, policy innovation, and cross-sector capacity building.
This elevates Ghana’s cyber leadership profile, opportunities for WIUC students and researchers, the university’s attractiveness to global partners, the relevance of WIUC programs to industry and government and the future of Africa’s cyber workforce.
Our participation did not just place WIUC on the map, it placed Ghana at the heart of Africa’s cyber security conversation. With deep commitment to building homegrown cyber talent, advancing digital forensics excellence, and pioneering ethical AI and immersive cybersecurity training, WIUC-ghana continues to push boundaries.
