On Tuesday, 12th August 2025, the vibrant spirit of youth leadership took centre stage at the Accra International Conference Centre during the 2025 African Youth in Politics Forum, themed “Empowering Africa’s Young Leaders: Political Participation for a Sustainable and Inclusive Future.”
The event, organised by the Africa Governance Centre in partnership with the government of Ghana as part of the African Political Parties Initiative, brought together an inspiring assembly of young leaders, policymakers, and youth-focused organizations from across the continent to discuss strategies for strengthening youth involvement in Africa’s political and governance processes.
Wisconsin International University College, Ghana (WIUC-Ghana) was honoured to have its Student Representative Council (SRC) serve as a special guest at this historic gathering, a participation which underscored Wisconsin’s commitment to nurturing globally minded leaders who are both socially conscious and politically engaged.

Alongside the SRC, several vibrant student groups proudly represented the university, including the Wisconsin International Students Association (WISA), the Business Association, the Law Association, and the Nursing Association. Together, they embodied the diversity, intellectual energy, and civic passion that define the Wisconsin student body.
The forum provided an invaluable platform for our students to interact with thought leaders, exchange ideas with peers from across Africa, and gain deeper insights into the critical role of young people in shaping inclusive governance systems. Discussions explored practical steps to break barriers to youth participation, promote gender equity in politics, and ensure sustainability remains central to Africa’s development agenda.

For the Wisconsin International University College, Ghana reps, this was more than just an event; it was a reaffirmation of our belief that education must go beyond the classroom to empower students as active change-makers in society. The lessons, networks, and inspiration drawn from the forum will undoubtedly fuel ongoing student-led initiatives aimed at promoting civic engagement on campus and beyond.
As Africa’s future rests in the hands of its youth, Wisconsin stands proud to contribute to the shaping of that future: one leader at a time.
