Wisconsin International University College, Ghana Engages Key Stakeholders On International Student Afffairs Forum

Wisconsin International University College, Ghana has held a high-level forum with representatives from various embassies and key stakeholders to deliberate on matters concerning international students at the institution.

Dr. Lawrence Kannae, Acting President of the University, officially welcomed participants to the forum. He expressed the university’s deep appreciation for the continued support and contributions of the diplomatic community and other stakeholders toward the growth of the institution over the years. Dr. Kannae also encouraged participants to play a more active role in guiding their compatriots to pursue quality higher education at institutions like Wisconsin. He emphasized that with the right training, these students can return home to contribute meaningfully to the development of their respective countries.

Mr. Nurudeen Mohammed, Director of Public Affairs and Marketing, moderated the session. He outlined the purpose of the forum and invited guests to share their impressions of the campus, many of whom described it as impressive and conducive to learning.

During the interactive session, a concern was raised about tuition costs for international students. Mr. Jacob Fynn, Chief Operating Officer, explained that Wisconsin’s fees are competitively structured to reflect the university’s commitment to academic excellence, modern technology, and industry-aligned programs that prepare students for today’s job market.

Another issue discussed was access to national health insurance. Mr. Fynn explained that the university operates an on-campus clinic where students can receive healthcare using their student ID cards. However, referrals to private external hospitals come at a cost. He welcomed the suggestion of expanding healthcare access and assured participants it would be considered.

Ms. Rebecca Amoin, President of the Wisconsin International Students Association, commended the university for facilitating internships during vacation periods. She shared her own positive experience as an intern currently placed in a reputable organisation. Mr. Fynn further proposed the creation of a French Club to promote cultural exchange and language learning between international and Ghanaian students.

The forum concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Kanae, who reaffirmed the university’s commitment to student-centred engagement and strengthened international collaboration.

In attendance were representatives from the Durra Institute Embassy, Nigerian High Commission, Sierra Leone High Commission, Malian Embassy, Burkina Faso High Commission, Togolese High Commission, and International student recruitment agencies.
