Wisconsin International University College, Ghana has held its 16th and 1st Graduation ceremonies for the Accra and Kumasi campuses respectively conferring degrees to 1,533 graduates between the two campuses. In all 1,406 undergraduate students, 11 Diplomas, and 116 postgraduate students were conferred degrees across various fields including nursing, law, environmental studies, business, ICT, and Economics.
The Chancellor of Wisconsin International University College Ghana Dr. Paul Kofi Fynn commended the over one thousand graduates for a hard-fought journey throughout their studies over the past 4 years and urged them to remain focused towards their ultimate goals. He challenged the graduates to be innovative and not to wait on the government for employment but instead use their skills and training given by Wisconsin to create jobs on their own.
The Chancellor used the opportunity to announce some major plans to university will undertake in the coming year including the introduction of new Masters programmes in Nursing, Information Communication Technology, and Cyber security.
Speaking on the theme “Redefining the Boundaries of Tertiary Education in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” the President of the University, Professor Obeng Mireku acknowledged the rapidly changing world which he said is largely driven by the transformative power of artificial intelligence. He added that this transformation is affecting teaching and learning, urging all on the need to adapt. ”As we embrace this era it is essential that we consider how it affects the very foundation of education,” the president said.
Professor. Obeng Mireku urged the graduates to be worthy ambassadors of Wisconsin wherever they go while admonishing them to make the most of the tools they have been equipped with through the university’s deployment of artificial intelligence in its teaching methods.
Students who excelled in various fields were also recognized and rewarded with special awards including Grace Sallah (BSc Midwifery) and Henry Amoateng who emerged valedictorians for the Accra and Kumasi campus respectively. Other winners include Peter Boamah as the Best Accounting Student (BSc Accounting) and Vera Botchway who emerged as the Best Postgraduate Student.
