Wisconsin International University College, Ghana Law Students’ Union Launches 2026 Week with Guest Lecture

The Law Students’ Union (LSU) of Wisconsin International University College, Ghana, officially launched its 2026 Week celebration with an engaging opening ceremony and guest lecture session held at the Faculty of Law.

The event brought together students, faculty members, and invited guests for a morning of insightful discussions and meaningful interaction. It marked the beginning of a week dedicated to promoting academic engagement, professional networking, and active student participation within the faculty.

In his opening remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr Peter Wiredu, welcomed participants and encouraged students to fully embrace the week’s activities. Drawing from his experience in the legal profession, he emphasised the importance of discipline, consistency, and a willingness to learn as key ingredients for success.

A major highlight of the programme was the guest lecture session, which featured presentations on both international and domestic legal issues. Mr Jonathan Quavedo Tello, Head of Chancery and Consular Sector of Peru to Ghana, delivered a lecture on diplomatic protection and consular assistance. He provided valuable insights into how states safeguard their nationals abroad and explained the legal principles that underpin such interventions.

The second lecture was delivered by Mr John Ato Breboh, Director at the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), who spoke on domestic violence. His presentation examined the legal framework governing the issue and the critical role institutions play in protecting victims and ensuring accountability for offenders. He also underscored the importance of raising awareness and strengthening support systems within communities.

Additionally, Ms Doris Agyemang, Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), addressed participants on the role of civic education in national development. She highlighted the Commission’s efforts to promote citizens’ awareness of their rights and responsibilities and introduced its University Club initiative, which encourages student involvement in civic engagement.

The opening day also featured the official unveiling of the LSU Week T-shirt, which was met with enthusiasm and added to the celebratory atmosphere.

Activities continued throughout the week, reflecting the broader objectives of LSU Week. On the second day, a legal clinic and career fair provided students with the opportunity to interact directly with legal practitioners and gain practical insights into the profession. The participation of AB Lexmall Associates was particularly impactful, offering students exposure to potential career pathways and internship opportunities.

The third day provided a relaxed setting with a beach hangout, allowing students to unwind, connect, and build relationships beyond the academic environment. This balanced approach highlighted the importance of both rigorous legal education and student well-being.

Overall, the active participation of students, faculty, and guests contributed significantly to the success of the programme. The blend of academic discourse, professional engagement, and social interaction made LSU Week 2026 a comprehensive and enriching experience.

The week concluded on a high note, leaving students not only better informed but also more connected to the legal community and to one another.
