Mr. David Olaga, Esq, WIUC-Ghana’s Alumnus named 2025 Valedictorian of LLM at University of Ghana

Mr. David Olaga, Esq. has been named the Valedictorian of the LLM (Master of Laws) programme at the University of Ghana School of Law 2025 graduation, outperforming his peers across 38 courses. In his valedictory address, he attributed his success to divine grace, the dedication of faculty members, and the unwavering support of his family and loved ones. “You inspired us to strive for excellence and pushed us to achieve our best,” he expressed with gratitude.

Wisconsin International University College, Ghana (WIUC-Ghana) proudly celebrates this remarkable achievements of one of its distinguished alumni, whose inspiring journey serves as a testament to perseverance, hard work, and dedication.

The Journey to Law

Mr. David Olaga’s dream of becoming a lawyer began over a decade ago. His motivation was deeply rooted in family legacy, as the only lawyer in his family at the time was 89 years old. Driven by this vision, he embarked on a journey that would eventually see him excel in the legal profession.

His academic path was anything but linear. He first earned a Diploma in Religion before pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Strategic Communication Studies at the African University College of Communications (AUCC), graduating with First-Class Honours. While working in the Religious Department at Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), his boss, Mr. Opoku Sarkodie, and his former lecturer, Prof. Asirifi Kodua, encouraged him to pursue a law degree.

It was another mentor, Mr. Amewuga, who introduced him to Wisconsin International University College, Ghana, which had just launched its Law programme. Mr. Olaga became part of the pioneering cohort at the WIUC School of Law, where he served as the class’s first Course Representative.

Never one to stop learning, he later pursued an MPhil in Psychology with a focus on Guidance and Counselling at Methodist University. His academic achievements also include a Master’s degree and a PhD in Theology.

Professional Journey


Mr. Olaga’s career spans several fields, demonstrating his versatility and commitment to
excellence. He started as a teacher at Teshie Presbyterian Secondary School in 2003, teaching Christian Religious Studies. In 2004, he joined GBC as a reporter and editor, eventually becoming the General Manager of Tumpani TV, now known as Channel 247.


Today, he is the Managing Director of Impressions Media Eye and OLAD Consult Ltd.
Additionally, he serves on the Board of AWANA Clubs Ghana, contributing to governance
and strategic planning. As a practising lawyer, Mr. Olaga continues to make significant
contributions to the legal fraternity.

Fond Memories at WIUC-Ghana


Reflecting on his time at WIUC, Mr. Olaga fondly recalls moments of camaraderie, engaging lectures, and vibrant campus life. One unforgettable memory was when a lecturer, MadamCecilia Tufour, walked into a particularly noisy class and wrote on the board: “Lecturer present, students talking.” The message instantly created a reflective silence in the classroom.


He also cherished the various student fun fairs, which fostered a sense of unity and
belonging.


“WIUC was truly a home away from home,” he recalled.

Words of Wisdom for WIUC-Ghana Law Students


When asked about his reaction to the news of being named valedictorian, Mr. Olaga admitted that it initially felt surreal. It was only after witnessing the joy of his family, friends, and well-wishers that the magnitude of his achievement truly sank in.


He left an inspiring message for current law students at WIUC-Ghana:


“To succeed in law, you need common sense, humility, retentive memory, and sacrifice. The legal profession has its own language, and you must dedicate time to reading and
understanding it.”

His story is a beacon of inspiration to all WIUC-Ghana students and alumni, reminding us that with determination and perseverance, dreams are attainable.
