Wisconsin International University College, Ghana Celebrates It’s 17th Graduation Ceremony

Wisconsin International University College, Ghana held its 17th Congregational Graduation Ceremony on Saturday, 16th November 2024, at the Charismatic Evangelistic Ministry (CEM) Auditorium. The event was graced by esteemed guests, including Dr. John Laabs, Executive Director of the Lutheran Education Association-USA, Dr. Paul Fynn, Chancellor of Wisconsin International University College, the President, Prof. Obeng Mireku, Academic Staff, Board of Directors, and special dignitaries from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, the University of Ghana, University for Development Studies, and the University of Cape Coast.

Opening Address by the Chancellor

Dr. Paul Fynn warmly welcomed the distinguished guests and officially declared the congregation duly constituted. Drawing from the theme “On Your Marks, Get Set, Go,” he encouraged graduates to embrace the ever-evolving world with boldness and innovation. He underscored the university’s advancements, emphasizing its commitment to excellence through modern teaching facilities such as the Cybersecurity and AI Laboratory, a state-of-the-art neurodiagnostics center, a high-definition mannequin for medical training, a communication studio, a moot court, and a music school.

Address by the President

The President, Prof. Obeng Mireku, delivered an inspiring speech on the theme, “Securing Tomorrow: The Role of Artificial Intelligence.” He highlighted the transformative potential of AI in shaping the future and urged graduates to become agents of positive change in their respective fields. Prof. Mireku celebrated the graduating class of 2024, comprising 1,735 students265 from the Kumasi campus and 1,470 from the Accra campus. He encouraged the graduates to maintain a strong connection with the university as ambassadors of its values and vision.

Special Recognition and Awards

Dr. John Laabs, the Executive Director of the Lutheran Education Association, commended Wisconsin for its forward-thinking management and commitment to excellence. He also presented the prestigious 2024 LEA International Lutheran Educator Award to Dr. Kojo Gyamfi, acknowledging his outstanding contributions to education.

The Dean of Students, Mrs. Lawretta Tetteh, presented four notable awards:
1. Overall Best Undergraduate Student and Valedictorian: Miss Dorcas Abena Gyan Boateng (School of Communication Studies), who graduated with First Class Honours and an impressive GPA of 3.95.
2. Best Accounting Student: Mr. Paul Kojo Fynn Jr., awarded by the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG).
3. Best Postgraduate Student: Mr. Michael Amponash Jr. (MBA, School of Research and Graduate Studies), sponsored by Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG).
4. Long Service Award: Dr. Albert Gemega, Dean of Research and Graduate Studies.

Valedictory Address

Miss Dorcas Abena Gyan Boateng delivered a heartfelt speech on behalf of the graduating class, expressing gratitude to the university’s lecturers and management for their unwavering support. She concluded with an inspiring quote from Nelson Mandela: “The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling but in rising every time we fall,” urging her peers to persevere in their quest for success.

The ceremony culminated with the official conferment of degrees on the graduates, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
