WIUC-GHANA SALUTES ALL ITS FRONTLINE STUDENTS

A number of nursing students of the Wisconsin International University College Ghana studying at various levels are part of the team of medical professionals serving on the frontlines to save lives amidst the COVID-19 outbreak.

The students working in various capacities including isolation and treatment, management of cases, contact tracing and training are stationed at various isolation centers across the country.

Some of the students including Mathias Ansah (Madina District Hospital, Kwabenya), Bernice Everlove Nkrumah (Cape Coast Teaching Hospital), Samantha Senorita Addy (Korle-bu Teaching Hospital), Juliet Antwi (Krowor Municipal), and Barimah Gabriel Osei (Korle-bu Teaching Hospital), spoke to us saying though they miss their homes and families, they are determined to putting their lives on the line to save Ghana.

Sharing his experience one of the student nurses Mathias Ansah said “I remember when I had to attend to my first patient who is covid-19 positive, the psychological trauma alone was so huge” Adding that “My heartbeat was quite faster than normal but I have to do everything for the patient, which is pass IV line, serve an IV infusion and medication.”

The frontline workers are compelled to work long hour shifts with no chance of going home to their families due to the high risk involved.

The President of the university expressed his pride in knowing that Wisconsin International University College is also contributing to rescuing the country in this health crisis through its well-trained students.

He further called on all members of the university community to fervently pray for all students serving on the frontline and their families, to come out of this crisis safe.

The global numbers of infected persons have hit 1.5 million with 100,000 deaths
