Wisconsin University Offers SHS Students Free Counselling And Guidance On Career Choices

As part of its corporate social responsibility and community engagement initiative, the Wisconsin International University College, Ghana held its maiden one day inter-Senior High School Seminar and Counselling at the Preset Pacesetters Senior High School located at Firestone near Madina.

The seminar is designed to offer Senior High School students the much needed direction and mentorship to help them make informed decisions in life. The session which brought together resource persons with diverse experience and expertise including lecturers and administrative staff from Wisconsin International University College Ghana is also aimed at helping students in second cycle institutions nationwide make the right choices at the tertiary level.

The Deputy Registrar at Wisconsin University, Mr. Joel Idun-Acquah in his introductory remarks encouraged students to try and discover their passion at an early age since that is one of the surest ways of succeeding in life. He added that students must take certain strategic decisions on areas they know they are weak  in and change course when necessary to enable them to move on to the next level

Head of I.T Support at Wisconsin university and Cyber security expert, Dr. Siraj Mohammed warned students against the general perception that ICT is easy saying, “IT is for people who are studious in nature. If you do not like learning, pursuing a career in ICT will be difficult”. Dr. Siraj also advised students against “short cuts” in life adding that “success is not about how much money one has but more so about the fulfillment a job brings to you”. He further urged the students to reach for the ultimate irrespective of one’s background, advising “you can achieve anything with a focused and honest mindset”.
