More than 1,700 students from the Greater Accra region have written their Nurse Assistant licensure exams at Wisconsin International University College in Accra.
The students were drawn from two public nurses’ training institutions – Pantang and Teshie – and six private training institutions - Narh-Bita, Family Health, Health Concern, Martin Luther, Western Hills and Nyaniba . They wrote the exams after completing a two-year programme accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana.
Meanwhile, Wisconsin has recently introduced a new pathway for Nurse Assistant Clinical personnel to upgrade their qualifications.
Nurse Assistant Clinical personnel who have been certified by the Nursing and Midwifery Council and who have three years’ working experience can progress to a degree through a bridging programme or Access Course.
The Access to Nursing course, an intensive six-to-eight week bridging course accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana, enables them to proceed to Level 200 of the BSc Nursing degree programme.
Wisconsin International University College is the only tertiary institution in Accra offering the bridging programme.
