In a move to minimize the impact on students and academic calendar likely to be caused by the global lockdown  following the outbreak of the deadly Covid-19, Wisconsin International University College, Ghana have intensified the use of online tools and platforms in teaching and learning. A process that was utilized by only a fraction of the lecturers has been institutionalized across all campus and programmes at the university.

In an interview with the Public Affairs unit of the university, it was disclosed that inasmuch as the situation is a global phenomenon, management of the university had to think outside the box in ensuring the impact caused by this lockdown would have only a minimal effect on academic and also to enable students catch up with the semester’s academic work which would have been lost.

Management and the Executive Committee of the Academic Board resolved to adopt this approach by taking faculty members through a refresher training on the use of online teaching tools.

This action the management insists is in line with the Presidents of the nation’s directive to all educational institutions to take steps to contain the spread of the virus.

A facilitator of the training programme and a lecturer at the Business School at Wisconsin explained lectures and Interim Assessments during this period will be done online through the various electronic platforms and resources. He further explained that students who would be the beneficiaries of the initiative must commit to the programme by acquiring the requisite tools such as laptops, phones and data necessary for successful implementation of the programme.
