Children as young as 10 months old in Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital are diagnosed daily with eye disease such as Trabeculotomy, cataracts, which needs urgent attention for the children to undergo surgery in order to restore their sight.
For this reason final year student of Wisconsin International University College Ghana (WIUC-GH) Rebecca Amenu established Becks optical services which is a social corporate entity. The vision of the establishment is to work hand-in-hand with the NGOs and private entrepreneurs to ensure quality optical services is rendered to mankind and society as a whole. Becks Optical Services whose founding principles are basically in serving people specifically with eye screening and optical services held a community support initiative program in commemoration of worlds sight day 10th October, 2019.Theme for the event was “Sow a Seed Save a Sight, in aid of children between the ages of 5-12years” to undergo surgery to restore their sight, the target is to raise 200, 000GHS to help implement this noble cause.
Guest Speaker Miss. Juliet Asante Board Chair of the National Film & Television Institute (NAFTI) in her remarks eulogized Miss. Rebecca Amenu CEO of Becks optical services for such a laudable initiative she had taken to raise funds to help fight different eye deficiencies faced by children. She added that she was in support of this initiative and urged the public to contribute towards this noble cause.
On her part CEO of Becks Optical Services said her firm had been on outreach to schools, churches, corporate organization all to offer free eye screening services which she said were her contributions for early detection of illnesses such as glaucoma, cataracts and many others.
She said in order for more people to be reached, the launch of operation donate 1GHS was a feasible way of bringing a lot of people on board.
This initiative is targeted at reducing to the barest minimum eye illness in children who will grow to be future leaders of Ghana.
