Wisconsin students are being encouraged to apply for internships at global investment bank Goldman Sachs in the UK, as well as a number of top local organisations. Wisconsin’s Career Services Centre will assist interested students to apply for the world-class training programme, mentorship from top professionals and a paid internship at leading companies.

The internships are arranged by Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO) Africa, a Ghanaian NGO, and provide talented and motivated university students with fantastic opportunities to work at leading companies.

Speaking to Wisconsin students at an information session held on campus, SEO-Africa’s Career Coordinator Bridget Asante said: "SEO-Africa interns will not typically find themselves making photocopies or buying the boss lunch.

"They work with managers and contribute meaningfully to the companies they are attached to. They are considered part of the company’s staff. "

While providing amazing learning experiences at top institutions such as ICC Securities, Halliburtons, Barclays and Bank of America Merrill Lynch, the programme helps students develop their technical skills as well as soft skills such as how to dress, speak and dine.

The programme also gives interns access to a network of over 10,000 alumni. Students also benefit from support in CV writing and preparing for interviews, and stand a chance to get jobs through recruitment seminars.

Encouraging students to take up the opportunity, Elizabeth Ofori, an alumna of the programme said: "I had doubts whether this was for me as I was a Biology student. I ended up as an intern in the oil & gas sector at Kosmos Energy and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

"I was not looked at as an intern. I was looked at as a professional and was able to attend high-level, closed-door meetings.

"I thought that with a good degree I would be set for life until I started my internship. I saw how much I really lacked. Now I feel confident enough to compete with anyone on the global stage.”
