A new association for nursing and midwifery students aimed at boosting their skills, knowledge and networks has been launched. The Wisconsin International University Nursing & Midwifery Students Association (WIUNMSA) was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof. Obeng Mireku on 2nd November, 2018.

Speaking at the inauguration, which took place at Wisconsin’s Main Campus in North Legon, Prof. Obeng Mireku, who was the chair, expressed his excitement at the formation of such an association.

The Vice Chancellor added that as well as acquiring knowledge, nursing and midwifery students had an additional requirement to obtain skills. He urged the newly sworn-in executives to work closely with the management, the Student Representative Council (SRC), and other bodies to fulfill the mandate of the association.

The WIUNMSA executives were sworn in by the Chief Justice of the Student Representative Council (SRC), Adam Abdallah.

In his acceptance speech, Samuel Adjei Boateng, the newly sworn-in president of WIUNMSA, commended the Acting Dean, School of Nursing, Ms. Angela Acheampong and the patron of the Association, Mr. Peter Osei, for championing the welfare of students and ensuring the establishment of the newly formed association.

He said that his administration would work towards building a formidable team and creating an all-inclusive administration focused on ensuring that students’ needs and concerns are addressed.

Mr. Adjei Boateng reiterated his campaign promises, which range from academic and social welfare projects, to sanitation and public health projects.

The event was attended by the Head of Nursing Department, School of Nursing, Ms. Rejoice Nutakor, lecturers from the School, SRC President Ms. Bridget Bonnie-Agbenyor, as well as nursing and midwifery students.
